Although nothing major happened afterward, a noteworthy change that happened to the area was that monsters and corrupted humans reappeared again, something that hadn't happened since the 90's. Shortly after touching it, Fred and Doug are thrown aback by a thin wave of light that spread across the land. Although precautioned by Doug not to touch it, Fred placed his hand on the giant rock, burning his hand. While traveling through empty fields with his best friend Fred, Doug discovered a meteorite by a tree nearby Twoson. Believing that he truly is the son of Jeff, Douglas begins to train with his staff in the woods outside of town, as well as deeply research the War Against Giygas, figure out various contraptions, and ultimately find out where he came from. While he goes to the Onett Library for school, he discovers that he could possibly be the biological son to Jeff Andonuts, a member of the Chosen Four. Now in the 2000's, the story follows Douglas, an orphan who resides in Threed. However, in the ensuing years following the end of the war, the four heroes are never heard from the public again, and they fade into obscurity. As they return to the present time, the Chosen Four go their separate ways, and peace falls onto the entire world. As Paula prays for the safety of her and her friends, Giygas' plans are successfully thwarted, and the Destroyer is ultimately defeated, while his follower Pokey flees unscathed. Towards the end of EarthBound, set in 199X, the Chosen Four ( Ness, Paula Jones, Jeff Andonuts, and Poo) travel hundreds of years into the past in order to defeat Giygas, the Universal Cosmic Destroyer, in what is nowadays called "The War Against Giygas".
